You
can always tell when election season is upon us in United States
Incorporated. First Nations people are actually spoken about. We are
mentioned on television and in print! This year is a tad different
because of what is breaking loose at the Standing Rock reservation.
If
you are unaware of what is happening on the Standing Rock reservation
I will now give you a quick rundown. This is a story that is as old
as USA Incorporated itself. First Nations people are in the way of
White folks ‘progress’ which as we all know really means White
folks money. Anything that has to do with Indians or even Brown folks
in general, is not about safety, (think the Wall Trump wants to
build) is not about progress, (this pipeline), equality. Everything
this government has ever given us, everything that White folks have
shared has basically boiled down to money and how they can make and
get more. Since the first invaders came here and had the damned nerve
to set up a colony, even before they renamed Turtle Island “America”
she has had a Indian Problem. The problem is we exist and we are the
rightful caretakers of this entire continent. Not owners, that is a
European idea which like Christianity did not exist here before 1492.
As caretakers we are responsible for the land and everything ON and
IN it. There is the real problem. There are minerals and resources
that can add to the wealth and therefore the domination that US INC
enjoys in this world.
The
Standing Rock reservation is in the way of the Dakota Access Pipeline
which is a 1,172 mile, 30 inch in diameter pipeline that connects the
Bakken and Three Fork oil fields or “production areas” as the
owners refer to it as, in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. It is
expected to transport approximately 470,000 barrels of oil per day
but have a capacity as high as 570,000 barrels or more. This line
will open up access to markets in the Midwest and East Coast and even
the Gulf Coast. Energy Transfer Crude Oil Company, LLC presents this
pipeline as a domestic wet dream in terms of belong to save us from
dependency on foreign oil and they promise “that it
is responsible, cost effective and safe.” Of course you can trust
big oil so what is really the problem here? I’m being sarcastic of
course but it doesn’t always translate in the written word.
At
first the pipeline was set to run a different route all together from
where it is now which is upstream of the Standing Rock Lakota
people’s land. It was supposed to run south of Bismark which is the
North Dakota capital. The problem with that route is that it is primarily populate by precious White people and not dirty Earth
worshiping Indians. (More sarcasm). That my friends is what is called
ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM.
Dave
Archambault II, chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, said in a
statement, “This pipeline was rerouted towards our tribal nations
when other citizens of North Dakota rightfully rejected it in the
interests of protecting their communities and water. We seek the same
consideration as those citizens. It’s disappointing to see our
state and federal officials advance their corporate, pro-Big Oil
energy platform here in North Dakota at the expense of human health,
safety and tribal sovereignty.”
We
are citizens here in USA INC after all and it is a tad ironic that we
are looking to be treated
and recognized and granted the same accommodations as citizens of this
nation when the president who enacted the law that granted First
Nations people citizenship was adopted into the Standing Rock Lakota
people.
Get
ready for a history/law lesson!
Outright
mass murder of Indians became politically unpalatable for White
people much like slavery became politically injurious for North
America’s status in the world and so it was stopped . USA INC has
had an Indian problem since expansion and of the many methods that
have been enacted to rid itself of this problem the most effective
one that cut what little authority we had over ourselves was making
us citizens on the very land that we have been caretakers of since
before there was ever a homo-sapien populated Europe.
The
American Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 was enacted in order to
further assimiliate us and make us recognize Washington’s “Great
White Father” as more improtatn and more powerful than any chief or
leader we may have had within the boundries of our tribe. Traditional
Indian governements were a huge problem for USA INC but making us
citizens made USA INC look gracuous and kind there was another motive
behind it.
Calvin
Coolidge was the president who signed
our citizenship into law and he was also the president who was very
instrumental in forming the League of Nations, this is important to
remember. In
the League of Nations if your nationality is different or seperate
from the organizing nations of the League you had the potential to be
a major problem. The Basque and Corsica people of France had the
ability to bring all of it’s grievences with France before the
members of the League because they were not French citizens. How do
you solve that problem? Make them citizens. The same exact thing
happened here. If Indians could take all of the issues they faced at
the hands of this government USA INC’s cache around the world would
sink. Coolidge could not let that happen so BAMO we were citizens.
When we became citizens the territorial integrity of USA Incorporated
was consolidated and all land claims against USA Incorporated
therefore became an internal manner and therefore not up for
discussion or debate. Also as citizens Indians were now bound by
rules set forth by the Congress, the courts and of course the
President in a manner the obviously biased them in favor of USA
Incorporated. So
while the word sovereignty is bandied
about when it comes to Indians it is not the truth. The truth of
reservations is the USA Incorporated holds the land in trust or for
the benefit of Indian people. This is why the corporation that owns
the pipeline can move the pipeline as they see fit on Lakota
territory
and not worry about the consequences from the government. The fact
that we began to protest and that the protest began to get so much
support was not on the radar of the company.
For
making us citizens and to show how grateful Indian people were the
Standing Rock Lakota adopted Calvin Coolidge and gave him a headdress
and everything! Flash
forward
to the White House Tribal Nations Conference in Washington DC and
here we have Barack Obama, CEO of USA Incorporated, and he is wearing
a headdress just like Coolidge. Isn’t it ironic that the same
reservation that is attempting
to protect itself from the Big Oil wing of USA Incorporated is the
very same reservation that just a few months ago adopted CEO Obama?
CEO
Obama did not take his adoption and his gift of a symbolic leadership
seriously because if he did this protest would not be taking place.
He is in the midst of his lame duck part of his presidency and so
honestly he could give a big middle finger to the big oil but he just
doesn’t give a damn.
